This course requires students to have completed HLTAID011 Provide First Aid within the previous 12 months.
Book NowGain the knowledge and skills to provide ongoing care to an ill or injured casualty over a prolonged period of time. It is ideal for remote areas where access to medical aid is difficult or delayed, including alpine, desert, marine, rural and tropical environments.
The course topics include prolonged care of casualties and self, infection control in remote situations, managing the deteriorating casualty, rescue preparation and evacuation.
This course is taught by St John trainers with over 100 years of combined experience and backgrounds in Nursing, Education and Leadership. They are ready to share their experience and passion with you that creates confidence to perform first aid should you ever need to.
2 days Face to Face - Must have current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate, which has been received in the last 12 months.
Course Outline
In addition to the topics covered in the Provide First Aid course, this course covers
- Prepare for first aid response in a remote or isolated site
- Emergency communication methods and equipment
- Management of life-threatening bleeding, including the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
- Conduct triage for a multiple casualty incident
- Ongoing care requirements of casualty beyond initial treatment
- Co-ordinate evacuation and first aid activities until assistance arrives
Statements of attainment
On successful completion of this course you will be issued a statement of attainment in:
- HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site
St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) are renewed every 12 months.
A successful outcome for this statement of attainment will be determined by a range of different assessment methods including a questionnaire, observation of simulated and practical activities etc.
You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.
