This course covers child specific first aid in many high-risk areas such as anaphylaxis and asthma as well as common injuries and resuscitation.   • Defibrillation
  • Managing the unconscious, breathing casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Wounds and Bleeding
  • Medical emergencies
  • Heat and cold induced illness
  • Strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures
  • Poisons
  • Legal issues
  • Asthma
  • Choking
  • Burns
  • Shock
  • Safety and risk management
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Facial and eye injuries
  • Bites and Stings
  • Infection control

STATEMENTS OF ATTAINMENT

On successful completion of this course you will be issued the following statements of attainment:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years and resuscitation, asthma, and anaphylaxis skills are renewed every 12 months.

A successful outcome for this statement of attainment will be determined by a range of different assessment methods including a questionnaire, observation of simulated and practical activities etc.

You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.
