Skills Checkpoint Program for Older Workers

The Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers Program (Skills Checkpoint) is an initiative help older Australians through career advice and guidance and investment in training to adopt a life-long approach to skills development to stay employed longer.

The Skills Checkpoint eligibility criteria includes that you must be:

aged 40 years or over,
an Australian citizen or permanent resident,
employed and at risk of entering the income support system, or  recently unemployed (within 12 months) and
not registered for assistance through an Australian Government employment services program.

If your Career Plan identifies that you would benefit from further training, you will be eligible to access the Incentive. The Incentive provides up to $2,200 (GST inclusive) towards the cost of either accredited or non-accredited training.

COURSE DELIVERY

The course is completed over 6 months through Virtual learning (Virtual classroom).

What is Virtual learning?

Virtual learning uses collaborative software applications to provide the benefits of face to face learning such as real-time interaction between students and educators, but with the flexibility of students being able to log on from the comfort of their home or workplace.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Participants must be able to communicate effectively with other people both in writing and orally.
  • Provide a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • You must also have good oral and written communication skills in English - as part of the enrolment process, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment.

Final payment must be settled before students receive their certificate of completion. After 30 weeks Students are required to pay a $120/per unit fee for any outstanding work to be marked.

If you wish to transfer after enrolment from one course date to another, a $50 administration fee will apply to reschedule.

Students must have:

  • Access to a computer with a Chrome browser and the internet
  • Microsoft Office 365

Government Funded Places

If you are over 40, you may be eligible for the Skills Checkpoint program. This training incentive can cover up to $2200 of your course fees. Check your eligibility.

 

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Credit transfer and recognition of prior leaning (RPL) are two ways your previous education, training or experience can contribute to a new qualification.

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

Assessment of the course is through a combination of practical activities and workbooks. Students are required to complete workbooks outside of class time.
