Why One Leader Traded Global Operations for Local Impact: Meet Vincent, Senior Training Team Leader

After decades working across international operations, security, crisis management, and marine search and rescue, Vincent knows what it means to perform under pressure. But when it came time for his next career step, he wanted something different, something that connected his professional expertise with a deeper sense of purpose.
That search led him to St John Ambulance Victoria, where he is now thriving as a Senior Training Team Leader, guiding trainers and students across the state to develop the skills and confidence to save lives.
“For me, it was about using what I’ve learned throughout my career in a way that gives back to the community,” Vincent says. “At St John, I get to see that impact every day, whether it’s a student who leaves the classroom ready to act in an emergency, or a trainer growing in confidence and leadership.”
A career built on service and leadership
Before joining St John, Vincent spent years managing operations and emergency response in Australia and overseas, leading teams, developing crisis protocols, and supporting others through high-stakes situations. Alongside that, he has always been drawn to community service, volunteering his time with Marine Rescue, helping people stay safe on Victorian waters.
That blend of operational discipline, training experience, and compassion made St John a natural fit.
“The transition felt right,” he explains. “I’ve always believed in building capability, helping people prepare for what they might face one day. First aid is exactly that: giving people the confidence and tools to help someone when it really matters.”
Leading with purpose
Now based at St John headquarters, he supports a network of trainers across Victoria while continuing to teach first aid himself. His approach centres on mentorship, quality, and impact, ensuring every session equips people with the confidence to take action.
“It’s inspiring to see people from all walks of life come through our courses, parents, teachers, tradies, office workers. Everyone’s got a reason for being there, and they all leave knowing they can make a difference,” he says.
Welcoming all backgrounds
Vincent’s story shows that there is no single path to St John. Whether you come from corporate leadership, health, education, trades, or emergency services, there is a place for everyone who shares the drive to help others.
“St John is about people helping people,” Vincent says. “It doesn’t matter where you’ve come from; what matters is that you want to make a positive impact.”
