The Power of Presence: How Thea Supports Seniors with Heart

For more than a decade, Thea Sing has been a compassionate presence in the lives of older Victorians through her work with Seniors Community Care.

Thea’s journey into aged care began on a personal note. “It actually started with my mum,” she shares. “She needed help with meal services, and while researching options for her, I discovered Manor Meals and then found out there were carers and nurses available too. That opened the door.”

After initially testing the waters with Seniors Community Care while still employed elsewhere, Thea quickly realised she’d found the right fit. “I was so happy; I ended up resigning from my other job and haven’t looked back since.”

What drives Thea is the opportunity to make meaningful connections. “You don’t always realise how much you can mean to someone,” she says. “Sometimes you might be the only person they see that day. No family, no kids, no neighbours, just you. That’s a privilege and a responsibility.”

Thea goes above and beyond the job description every day, happily hanging out washing, making a cup of tea, or simply being a kind listener. “It’s about supporting someone’s independence, not taking it away. People are happiest in their own homes. Our role is to help them stay there safely and with dignity.”

For Thea, the rewards of the role are instant. “As soon as you do something to help someone, you feel it right away, in your heart. Getting paid is just a bonus.”

Reflecting on her time with the organisation, Thea says, “I feel really lucky to have worked with Seniors Community Care for as long as I have. If anyone is considering a career in aged care, I would highly recommend it. There’s so much positive change happening, it’s only getting better from here.”
