The Heroes of Darebin

Among the small team of 20 passionate volunteers at the Darebin Division is Chai Foreman-Sim, an incredible young member who has been a volunteer with St John since 2012, initially joining the Bayside Division as a youth member. Over the years, Chai has held various roles within the organisation, showcasing his versatility and dedication.

He has served as a Venue Support Officer for prestigious venues such as Rod Laver and Margaret Court Arenas, as well as fulfilling the role of Clinical Rostering Officer. Most recently, Chai has taken on the significant responsibility of Divisional Manager for the Darebin Division, where he is responsible for the 20 members and is looking to grow his team dramatically in 2024.

Beyond his contributions to St John Ambulance, Chai is also a Paramedic, bringing invaluable experience and expertise to his role. Having worked in diverse areas such as Redfern, Liverpool, and currently Albury and Corowa along the Victorian and New South Wales border, Chai brings a wealth of real-world knowledge to his volunteer work with St John.

"Give it a go!” Chai encourages individuals emphasizing that “St John is a great way to learn new skills, build on existing ones, gain experience providing event health services to the public at some of Victorias biggest events. It is a fantastic way for healthcare students and registered healthcare professionals to gain exposure and experience in a different environment. There is a wide array of specialist teams to get involved in, including the HERT (Healthcare Emergency Response Team), MAT (Field Hospital), BERT (Bicycle Emergency Response Team), Communications, Logistics and Command."

Volunteers like Chai Foreman-Sim are a testament to the rewarding experiences and opportunities available within St John Ambulance, and the Darebin Division welcomes individuals who are passionate about serving their community to join their ranks.
