Supporting 13.5 Million Victorians: A Year of Impact for St John Ambulance Victoria
We have released our 2025 Annual Report, highlighting a year of strong impact, meaningful connections and life-saving outcomes across the state.
From classrooms and community centres to major events and aged care settings, St John continued to deliver care, education and support where it matters most. In 2025 alone, our people reached 13.5 million Victorians through a wide range of services.
CEO Gordon Botwright said the results reflect the real moments where St John makes a difference.
“These numbers represent times when people needed help, and someone was there,” he said. “That’s the strength of a community-led organisation with service at its heart.”
Making a difference across Victoria
Throughout the year, St John supported individuals and communities in many ways:
- More than 81,000 students gained essential first aid skills through the free first aid in school program
- Over 63,000 patients were transported 44,400+ hours of in-home care were provided and 85,000+ meals were delivered 65,000+ Victorians were trained in first aid, mental health and advanced education courses like the HLT31120 Certificate III Non-Emergency Patient Transport
Each of these figures represents a real story, someone receiving care, learning how to respond in an emergency, or feeling reassured during a difficult moment.
2025 highlights
Some of the key achievements from the year include:
- Supporting 2,586 events with the service of 1,857 volunteers, who contributed over 223,000 hours
- Treating 10,736 patients at events, including hospital transfers and critical interventions
- Training thousands through community initiatives, including free CPR programs and defibrillator installations in high-risk areas
- Servicing over 61,000 first aid kits, helping workplaces stay prepared
- Celebrating 100 years of the Youth Program in Australia
- Reintroducing the free Kindergarten First Aid Program, helping build confidence from an early age for over 1000 4-year-olds
“Ultimately, it’s about the practical difference this work makes,” Mr Botwright said. “It’s ensuring people feel prepared, supported and confident to act when it counts.”
Building stronger, safer communities
A key focus throughout 2025 was strengthening community capability, making first aid knowledge more accessible, expanding life-saving equipment, and supporting people across all stages of care.
Whether through training, clinical services or emergency response, St John’s role remains clear: helping Victorians feel ready to step in and help others.
This work was also evident at major events across the state, as well as in everyday settings like schools and workplaces, where prevention and preparedness play a vital role.
Looking ahead to 2026
Building on this momentum, St John Ambulance Victoria is focused on growing its impact even further in 2026.
Key priorities include:
- Expanding access to first aid and mental health education, with a goal of reaching 300,000 Victorians
- Increasing overall community reach to 15 million people
- Improving survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, aiming to save 500 lives each year
- Growing community resilience by ensuring 53% of Victorians are ready to provide first aid to someone in need
- Strengthening partnerships that support better health outcomes, particularly for women and priority groups
Continuing the mission
As demand continues to grow, St John remains committed to investing in its people, programs and partnerships.
“The need isn’t slowing down, and neither are we,” Mr Botwright said. “We’re focused on ensuring more Victorians know what to do in a crisis and feel supported every step of the way.”
