Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders: Tatiana’s Journey with St John Ambulance Victoria

When Tatiana joined St John Ambulance Victoria two years ago, she never imagined that her passion for helping others would lead her to shape how thousands of young Victorians learn first aid.

Now leading the dedicated team of Community Education Officers, who are behind St John’s Community Education Programs, including First Aid in Schools , Party Ready, and CPR Lab, Tatiana plays a key role in empowering the next generation with life-saving skills. Each year, these programs reach tens of thousands of children, teenagers, and community members, giving them the knowledge and confidence to act in an emergency.

“I loved the emergency care side of things,” says Tatiana, who holds a Bachelor of Paramedicine, “but I realised my true passion was in prevention and education, helping people before they reach that critical moment by giving them the skills to save a life.”

Leading with Heart and Confidence

Stepping into a leadership role early in her career was both a challenge and an opportunity for growth.

“As a young leader, it can be daunting when others have more experience,” Tatiana shares. “But I’ve learned to trust my abilities. I was hired for a reason; someone believed I could make a difference.”

Tatiana’s approach to leadership is grounded in collaboration and purpose. She doesn’t just manage the delivery of programs, she is out in classrooms, kindergartens, and community spaces alongside her team, ensuring that every participant walks away feeling empowered.

“I see my role as supporting and guiding my team,” she says. “Together, we’re helping to build a safer, more resilient community.”

Creating Impact Through Education

As a Community Programs Team Leader, Tatiana manages a diverse group of educators who travel across the state delivering interactive, hands-on sessions to students and community members.

Under her leadership, the team continues to expand the reach and impact of St John’s education initiatives. From teaching over 110,500 school children the DRSABCD action plan, to helping more than 3,000 teens understand the importance of safe decision-making through Party Ready or bringing hands-on CPR practice to workplaces and public spaces through CPR Lab and teaching nearly 10,500 people per year, each program contributes to a stronger, more prepared Victoria.

“I’m passionate about empowering the community to be proactive in emergencies,” she says. “That’s what I love about working here, everything we do has a positive impact.”

Beyond her day-to-day role, Tatiana has contributed to developing new learning materials and delivery methods, ensuring programs remain engaging and relevant for all audiences.

A Career with Heart

Outside of work, Tatiana enjoys spending time outdoors with her energetic puppy, but her dedication to St John’s mission continues to inspire those around her.

“There are so many opportunities to grow here,” she says. “Every day, we’re not just teaching first aid; we’re shaping confident, capable people who can make a real difference in their communities. It’s exciting to know that I can keep learning, leading, and making a difference.”
