Volunteer Roles - Community Transport

Please note: This service is currently available in Melbourne Metro areas only.

The St John Community Transport Service assists meeting everyday needs of people in our local community by being more mobile and having safe and reliable transport.

St John Community Transport Volunteers are trained to deal with a variety of first aid scenarios from applying a dressing through to performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in the unlikely event that this is required.

As a St John Community Transport Volunteer, you will support the community by delivering high-quality and professional transport services to deliver on our mission For the Service of Humanity.

Your role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following duties:

  • Picking up, transporting and dropping off customers safely and timely in accordance to the daily schedule, throughout Melbourne and surrounding areas.
  • Navigating and timing journeys with the use of a smart phone.
  • Assisting customers with loading and unloading of walking aids, luggage, bags, etc.
  • Collecting and returning the vehicle and equipment needed each day to St John State Office in Mount Waverley or other previously agreed upon locations.
  • Monitoring the vehicles condition and assisting with upkeep of cleanliness.
  • Responding to potential emergency situations during shift, including performing first aid

As a member, you will be supported by the Community Transport Team with your Team Leader providing ongoing leadership and mentorship. With their support, you are urged to dedicate a minimum of 1 day per fortnight to volunteering for St John Community Transport.
