Emergency First Aid

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to respond to life threatening emergencies in a range of situations, including those more likely in a workplace setting.

As well as learning to respond to an unconscious casualty, this course will outline the chain of survival, DRSABCD action plan, and will deliver the skills required to use an automated external defibrillator. (WA)

Duration: 5.5 HRS
Course Outline: Learn how to manage a First Aid scenario.

Covers the management of:
  • How to manage a First Aid Scenario
  • An unconscious breathing person
  • An unconscious non breathing person which includes CPR and use of an AED
  • Choking
  • Drowning
  • Shock
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Burns
  • Chest pain
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
Statement(s) of attainment:
  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support
St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years and resuscitation skills (HLTAID001/HLTAID007) are renewed every 12 months.
Assessment Information: A successful outcome for this statement of attainment will be determined by a range of different assessment methods including written assessment (questionnaire), observation of simulated and practical activities etc. You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.
