Meet Your Trainer: Katie

Katie Van Woerkom
Training Team Leader

Katie has been a trainer with St John Ambulance for 7 years and, as a keen beach volleyballer, is passionate about sharing her first aid knowledge. Our students always remember Katie’s smile and passion when delivering the fundamental steps that will help them save a life.

Katie will take you through how to use a Defibrillator, the importance of having one and the difference between adult and child pads.

Restart a Heart Day

Restart a Heart Day is a global initiative on October 16 to raise awareness and educate the community about CPR and AEDs in the community. 

Alarmingly, survival from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) has halved during the COVID-19 pandemic, down to just 6.1% from an average of 12%. Research shows survival rates of up to 70% can be achieved if an AED is on hand.

75% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in our homes. Many Australian's don't know what to do in an event of SCA - do you?
