Mental Health and Crisis Support Course

This course is suitable for community workers, and people in the workplace and community who may be involved in crisis intervention.

In any one year, it is estimated that 1 in 5 Australian adults experience a mental health condition. Despite considerable evidence that many mental health conditions are preventable, too many people in our community experience mental health conditions that affect their wellbeing and ability to participate fully in everyday life. At some point in their life, approximately 50% of Australians will experience a diagnosable mental illness

(ABS 2018; AIHW 2018b)

The Importance Of Mental Health Training

With mental health issues becoming more commonplace and First Aiders being called upon to help with colleagues, friends, family and members of the public, the Trainer will cover practical steps to take to recognise and support people with mental health issues. Students will engage in a range of practical scenarios, following the Action Plan outlined in the course. The course topics include the principles of crisis intervention, recognising and responding to signs of a person who may be at risk and providing support to people at risk.
